Are you serious? You're going to let us do this? This is gonna be so fun!
There are days when your kids need a fun way to practice skills so they don't even realize they're doing work. This Peeps Day Science Experiment and STEM Challenge is perfect for the days leading up to Spring or Easter break. And, it covers Reading, Math, and Science. (You can team up with your partner teachers like I did, and then everyone gets to join in the fun!)
I love project-based learning. It's fun to see kids get jazzed up about a topic and watch them have to collaborate with other students. That takes practice! But mostly it's just fun to watch them create and get excited about the projects.
They have creative ideas and I found my students were more willing to push boundaries in their thinking when they were creating with their hands.
Math Challenge #1:
How skilled are you and your team members at building a catapult to shoot your Peeps farther than anyone else?
What will it cost to build it? Can you stay within your budget? Can you make it go far using only the tools you purchased?
Different designs and different approaches to catapulting led to some surprises!
Math Challenge #2:
Building houses required geometry skills. Would the homes be large enough for the Peeps chick to fit inside? Use Geometry to compute height, length, depth, area, and volume?
Science Challenge:
In Science, students researched the physical and behavioral adaptations that animals make to survive in the wild. Then, they were assigned a biome and had to present how their Peeps would adapt to that environment.
Reading Challenge:
- These are just some of the fun activities your students can participate in if you schedule a Peeps Challenge over several days!
- If you'd like to do this but you don't have the time or bandwidth to come up with lesson plans, graphic organizers, clear directions, and everything else you need, don't you worry. I've got you covered. Click on the picture below to take a closer look!
