An author matching game that's perfect for back to school

When students see books on your shelves but they don't know where to start.  Have them play this interactive game that gets them exploring authors and genres.

Who knows?

You might get yourself a classroom full of readers!

A friend of mine created this activity and I thought it was a great idea so I'm putting in a plug for her.

What I like is that this activity can be used several different ways, depending on your time and your students' skill levels.  You can use it at the beginning of the year, but it holds up nicely any time.

How to use it:

  1. Hand each student a card on their way into the room.
  2. They match that card to a card on a desk OR
  3. They match that card to a book on a desk OR
  4. They match that card to a book on your shelf.
You can also have them complete a short research sheet (it's included) about the author and the books they've written.  Or have them do a more in-depth biography.  Or just have them sit and start reading.  You have lots of choices!
